In TTerm for iPad versions 1.20 and above include a dedicated escape key in the DEC VT range of terminal emulations. If you are installing a fresh copy of TTerm, TTerm Plus or TTerm Pro, you do not need to do anything, your bluetooth escape key will work 'out of the box'. If you are upgrading an earlier copy of TTerm for iPad and have NOT made any changes to the default DEC VT keyboard mappings you do not need to do anything, your bluetooth escape key will simply work with the VT emulation.
This article apples to TTerm, TTerm Plus and TTerm Pro version 1.2.0 and above
If you have made any prior modifications to the default DEC VT keyboard mapping for use with a bluetooth keyboard you will find that when upgraded TTerm for iPad will preserve your custom keymaps. In this scenario you will need to edit the keyboard mapping to 'connect' the emulation escape key with your bluetooth escape key. To do so, follow these steps:
- Ensure you have a bluetooth keyboard connected to your iPad.
- Edit your existing saved DEC VT based connection.
- Under Advanced select Keyboard then Bluetooth Keyboard.
- Tap the on screen escape key on the keyboard graphic.
- In the pop up that appears, tap Change Key Mapping and press the Escape key on your bluetooth keyboard. The Physical Key entry will update.
- Back out of the configuration screen and tap done to save the changes.
Your keyboard mapping is now updated and the bluetooth escape key will send an emulation escape key to the host when connected.
TTerm, TTerm Plus and TTerm Pro version 1.1.1 and earlier
In version 1.1.1 of TTerm for iPad and earlier no dedicated DEC VT Escape key is included in the on-screen keyboard. To send your host an escape key, press CTRL + [ on the on screen keyboard or on your bluetooth keyboard. In most circumstances you may also press the emulation F13 key (mapped to ⌘ + e on your bluetooth keyboard by default). This operation is identical to the original terminal. If you wish, you may map the emulation F13 key to your bluetooth keyboard escape key.
