Evaluation versions of TTerm Connect, Turbosoft's web based, zero install terminal emulator are now available! A virtual machine evaluation copy of TTerm Connect lets you start testing TTerm Connect quickly, without the need to configure a server environment. Download from our trial software page.

For software companies like Turbosoft having demonstration and evaluation versions of our products is a very important part of connecting with our customers. It allows new users to test drive our software and confirm its suitability, something that's essential whether you’re looking at a single copy or to standardizing across an entire organization. For many years Turbosoft ran a BBS to distribute its software to interested parties and mailed box upon box of 3.5inch floppy discs or CD-ROMs to users looking to evaluate our terminal evaluation software, all over the world.

Recently Turbosoft released TTerm Connect, our zero install web to host terminal emulator. Whilst we strive to make our software's user experience a smooth and easy one, there is at least some unavoidable configuration legwork with a server based product.

With desktop software, checking the suitability of a product for your needs is often as much about downloading and installing a trial version as it is reviewing technical documentation. We want to make it that easy to take TTerm Connect for a test drive, and so, we've released a pre-configured TTerm Connect virtual machine available from our trial software page now.

Getting Started

To get started, simply download a trial version of TTerm Connect, be sure to choose a virtual machine download option. You'll also need software to run a virtual machine on your host device, see the links at the end of this article if required.

On start-up the virtual machine runs through just three configuration settings before rebooting. The Administration Portal, the component of TTerm Connect where configuration, management and monitoring of host connectivity happens, is then accessible through a web browser from a given URL on port 8090.

The Desktop Client, TTerm Connects web based terminal emulation client, is accessible on port 80. of the same URL.

Our testing shows you can be connected to a remote host in as little as 3 minutes, a little longer if the default session configuration of VT220 over telnet is not suitable for your host.

Virtual Machine Configuration (Updated)

The virtual machine is a 1.5GB minimal Ubuntu 22 (Jammy Jellyfish) installation, suitable for running under VMware ESXi, VMware Workstation Player, Oracle's Virtualbox and others. If you do not have one of these already, links are provided at the end of the article.

The virtual machine demo environment has been configured to run TTerm Connect over http rather than https. This is a choice made for the sake of simplicity as it eliminates the need for the tester to provide a valid SSL certificate. For obvious security reasons it is strongly recommended that TTerm Connect be run over https in a production environment.

For licensing reasons, the evaluation virtual machine uses a Linux host operating system, specifically Ubuntu. Alternately TTerm Connect can be run under 64-bit Windows operating systems. See the TTerm Connect webpage for more detail and TTerm Connect technical specifications.

What Are the Limitations of the Demo Version?

TTerm Connect comes with a 30-day evaluation license. The license will serve up to 50 users concurrently with a maximum of 5 session each, for a total of 250 host sessions for the server. Other than that, there are no limitations on TTerm Connects functions.

But I Don’t Want a Virtual Machine!

No problem, we're happy to make available an installable evaluation version of TTerm Connect for you to work with in your environment. Simply fill out the evaluation form and a Turbosoft representative will be in touch to discuss with you how best we can meet your needs.
