There are several options for managing configuration deployment and sharing within TTerm for iPad. This method is used for cloning ALL configuration and connections settings and is intended for use in setting up multiple iPads.

For information on other management and deployment options please refer to this article.

Administrators looking to mass configure and deploy TTerm in a school, business or institution can make use of the Export Settings option on the Settings page to export current Access Settings and all Connections items to a file. This file is made available through file sharing and may be used in conjunction with the Apple Configurator and/or Mobile Distribution Management software to deploy TTerm on multiple devices with this configuration.

The process involves firstly configuring and exporting settings from a single devices and secondly, preparing the exported settings file for distribution.

Exporting

Follow these steps:

  1. First, on a single iPad, create the required number of host connections and set the required Access Level (see this FAQ for more information on Access Levels).
  2. On the Settings page tap Export Settings. This will export the Access Level settings and all the connection items listed under Connections.
  3. TTerm will now place a copy of these settings in file called export.attexp on your iPad. Please be aware that SSH key credentials stored in any saved connections will also be exported.

To retrieve the exported configuration file follow these steps. If you're using macOS Mojave or earlier or a Windows PC you will need to export your files using iTunes file sharing. Skip the following steps and refer to the section below.

  1. Connect your iPad to your computer with a USB cable.
  2. Select your device in the Finder.
  3. Click the Files tab to see a list of apps that can share files.
  4. Click the triangle next to TTerm and copy the file export.attexp. to the desired location. Your configuration file is now saved to your computer.

The following steps only apply to macOS Mojave or earlier and Windows PCs.

  1. Connect your iPad to your computer with a USB cable.
  2. In iTunes select your device and open the Apps tab.
  3. Scroll down to File Sharing.
  4. Select the TTerm app from the list of Apps.
  5. Browse to your saved connection file and click the Save to... button. The file name is export.attexp. Your configuration file is now saved to your computer.
Importing

Follow these steps:

  1. On your computer rename export.attexp to import.attexp.
  2. Place this file in the file sharing area of new TTerm installations. There are several ways to achieve this, either manually via Finder or iTunes file sharing if you're using macOS Mojave or earlier. Alternately consider software such as the Apple Configurator and/or Mobile Distribution Management tools.
  3. When TTerm is first launched this file will be read and the saved configuration silently applied, including Access Settings, passcode and Connections. The file is then deleted.

This feature is intended to be used on new installations of TTerm and repeating the process by importing another import.attexp file will overwrite any existing Access Settings.
