Schenker plugs technology hole with world first from Turbosoft

Schenker is one of the leading international providers of integrated logistics services. The company supports the global exchange of goods between industrial and trading concerns by offering European land transport, as well as worldwide air and sea freight and the associated logistics services. Almost 28,000 employees at 1,000 locations all over the world make a total turnover amounting to around 5.2 billion Euro every year.

The Australian division of Schenker, has drastically improved the reliability of access to its accounting software through the innovative use of Turbosoft's Customisable Proxy Server (TCPS) and Turbosoft's TTWin terminal emulation software package.

One of the mission critical accounting applications used within Schenker required access from remote sites. The reliability of some of the links periodically caused dropouts in active sessions. This, combined with other inadvertent disconnections that occurred from time to time, was a major problem. If a session dropped out in a critical position a restore would be required that was both time consuming and required much rework.

Ivan Krivacic, National IT Manager, Schenker Australia said, "We needed the ability to reconnect to sessions that had dropped without incurring security problems. Turbosoft was able to provide us with exactly the solution we needed, and in fact went further than we asked. Their solution was built on TCPS combined with TTWin, their Terminal Emulator." He added "When a session is lost due to a bad link, the Turbosoft TCPS keeps the host end alive, and retains sufficient status information to put the user terminal session back where it was when the connection is re-established. To guarantee that there is no unauthorised access there is a security facility that ensures that only the owner of the session can reconnect."

Krivacic said, "we are extremely pleased with the solution, it was delivered well before the deadline, and the teething problems were resolved over a period of just a few weeks. Turbosoft were very professional and responsive, and we are looking forward to promoting this solution to other parts of the organization."

Turbosoft are developers of PC to Host communication products. The company was formed in 1988, and supplies software to all parts of the world. TCPS is the latest entry in Turbosoft's highly respected product range, TCPS is a flexible and customisable proxy server that works hand in hand with Turbosoft's Emulation software.

Turbosoft is committed to delivering exceptional levels of product and service. This, combined with a focus on ongoing product development, ensures that its clients continue to benefit from advances in technology.
